How does SiteKist work? Any questions?

On this page you'll still find some questions that we get more frequently ... and our answers.

Instead, however, we will now record Video Tutorials on how to use the numerous functions in SiteKist and put them up here for everyone. That will make your decision in favour of SiteKist easier and helps users with their web-projects.

Nevertheless, you are still welcome to ask us anything you want to know about the SiteKist functions specifically or websites in general from our Contact page.

Also please visit our SiteKist Blog - we continuously publish the latest news about SiteKist on that page as soon as we have changed or improved anything.

Here are the answers :

Why is it important to publish my website on my own domain?

You can publish a website easily and quickly on a sub-domain at SiteKist. It would then be called sites.sitekist.com/mysitename.

Visitors recognise that immediately, though and quite correctly assume that the publisher is not really serious about his business - precisely because it is so easy and non-committal.

The registration of your own domain like e.g. www.mysitename.com also costs very little, but it signals a certain committment and more dedication to the reader.

A commercial website should always be published on your own domain. Beyond that, your business name on the Internet is shorter, concise and easier to remember that way.

If you don't know where to best register your own domain, here are two suggestions:

BlueHost Domain Hosting (USA)   1&1 Domain Hosting (Germany)

These hosting companies are both reasonably priced and have all the functions you need.

Wherever you decide to host your site, please make sure that you get at least one MySQL database with your webspace - sometimes the cheapest packages still do not give you one. You need a database for your website for certain functions.

If at all possible, also look whether CronJobs are provided for and activated in your webhosting package : you may want to use CronJob functions with certain advanced features of our eNewsletter.

How do I get my FTP details that I have to fill in?

Most webhosting companies send them to you automatically by eMail as soon as you have registered your domain with them. If they didn't, please log in to your account with your hosting company - you'll see all your domain data there.
